Our 3 day Mgahinga gorilla safari takes you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located in South Western Uganda, this beautiful park is the only park in Uganda where mountain gorillas co-exist with the fellow endangered golden monkeys thus the saying “Gold meets Silver”.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is one of the two places where you can spot the endangered mountain gorillas, this park is relatively small covering an area of 38 square kilometers siting on the slopes of three giant volcanoes. The park is home to only one habituated gorilla family – Nyakagezi and only a group of 8 people is allowed to visit this family.

Detailed itinerary of 3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will be met by our guide, after briefing about what to expect on the safari. You will embark on a 9 to 10 hours to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, along the way you will enjoy the amazing scenery and admire the beautiful landscape and the rolling hills of the Southwestern Uganda.

You will bypass rolling hills, mountains and the local people doing their normal business along the roadside, lookout for the long horned Ankole cattle grazing close along the roadside as you approach Mbarara. You will have a stop at the Mpambire Royal Drum makers and see how large traditional drums are made, have another stopover at the Equator crossing which separates the world into two hemispheres that is Northern and Southern Hemisphere and you will have a chance to stand in two hemispheres at once.

Proceed to the park with en-route in Mbarara, then continue to Kisoro district. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check-in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Have early breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing by park warden or rangers, in the briefing you will be taken through rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking and while in the presence of the gentle giants. In a group pf 8 people, you will head into the forests of Mgahinga looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent their previous night.

When you locate the gorillas, you are to spend one hour in the presence of the gorillas while observing their behavior which is so similar to humans, watch baby gorillas play and their mothers taking care of them. You are allowed to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off, trek back to the park’s headquarters where you will be rewarded with a gorilla trekking certificate, meet your guide and head back to your lodge.

In the afternoon, you can choose to go for a cultural encounter with one of the local tribes or go for a nature walk and see some of the crater lakes in the area such as Lake Mutanda.

Day 3: Transfer to Kampala

Have breakfast at your leisure, meet your driver guide and start on your journey back to Entebbe, along the journey you will enjoy the beautiful grass plains, hills, muntains  and valleys and the panoramic views of western Uganda. You will have en-route lunch and when you arrive in Kampala, you will be dropped off either at your hotel or at Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home.
