Virunga is renowned for its population of critically endangered mountain gorillas, offering one of the best gorilla trekking experiences in the world. In addition to gorillas, the park is home to other primates, such as chimpanzees and colobus monkeys. The park also hosts a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, hippos, and rare species such as the okapi. Birdwatchers will be thrilled with over 700 bird species, including the Albertine Rift endemics like the Rwenzori Turaco and Grauer’s Swamp Warbler.
